The high rate of survivors of childhood sexual abuse strongly suggests that dental hygienists work frequently (and mostly unknowingly) with adult survivors of childhood violence. Participants will learn how to use the principles of “sensitive practice,” a term resulting from a multidisciplinary research project in which survivors and health-care providers identified ways to improve health-care experiences. Guidelines will be presented to help dental hygienists in “difficult” situations.
